Animals Will Have Good Christmas

Generosity is making sure that the animals looking for good homes also have a brighter Christmas. Thanks to kindness, an animal shelter in Schuylkill County can also celebrate the holiday.

At the Plain and Fancy Donut Shop in Schuylkill Haven, they sell all kinds of pastries. But, in the back room, owner Jim Mckeone says turkeys are being prepared.

"I was always an animal lover," he says. "Actually, I love animals better than people. And. I think they have feelings, too, and it's Christmas. They should have something good."

About 30 turkey breasts were loaded into an oven and slowly cooked to perfection.

Their destination on Christmas day? The Ruth Steinert Memorial S.P.C.A. near Pine Grove. Shelter manager Jean Thomas says small portions of the turkey will be fed to the hundreds of dogs and cats.
